Splitting a PDF can mean different things. You can split so every page becomes its own file, or select specific pages and extract only those into separate files. Both modes deliver a ZIP archive with the pages as individual PDFs, so you can redistribute them, process each one separately, or reorganise a scanned document.
How the split works: the file naming and ZIP structure
Drop your PDF into the grid of thumbnails. Tap the checkbox on pages you want, or leave selection empty to split every page. Hit "Split to separate files (ZIP)" and the tool creates files named page-001.pdf, page-002.pdf, etc., bundled in a timestamped ZIP (e.g., split_1723920000000.zip). Zero-padded numbers keep files sorted correctly even past page-099.
What doesn't survive the split
Bookmarks and the outline tree are not copied. Form fields don't carry over. Hyperlinks that pointed between pages become dead links inside a single-page PDF. Document metadata like author, title, or creation date stays behind. Page rotation you apply does survive, and all page content (text, images, shapes) stays at full quality.
Browser-only, 100MB file limit
Everything runs in your browser tab—very large PDFs are bounded by available memory. Each input file caps at 100MB. When splitting a scanned legal document or thesis, count viewer pages, not printed folio numbers.
For related tasks, merge PDFs to combine files, or organize pages before splitting.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Split PDF.
How do I extract certain pages from a PDF?
Drop your PDF, then tap the checkbox next to the pages you want to extract. Hit Split to separate files (ZIP) and only those pages become individual PDFs. Alternatively, use Extract Selected if you just want to pull them into a single merged PDF.
Does splitting a PDF lose quality?
No. The page content stays intact—text, images, and graphics all remain at their original quality. Only document-level features like bookmarks, form fields, and cross-page links do not carry over into the split files. Each page becomes a standalone PDF with full fidelity.
How do I split a PDF into separate files?
Drop the PDF into the tool and either select specific pages or leave all unchecked to split every page. Hit Split to separate files (ZIP) to download a ZIP archive with page-001.pdf, page-002.pdf, page-003.pdf, and so on. The ZIP is named with a timestamp for quick identification and file sorting.
Do bookmarks survive splitting?
No. Bookmarks, outlines, form fields, and inter-page links are document-level features that do not carry over when splitting. Each output file is a fresh, standalone PDF with only its page content and rotation settings preserved. Document metadata like author and title also stays behind.
