Browse all PDF Tools →A drawn signature is an image, not a legal seal
This tool captures your signature as a visual PNG image and embeds it into the PDF. It does not create a cryptographically signed or timestamped document, and the result is not a legal e-signature in most jurisdictions. If the PDF is modified after signing, there is no detection — the signature is simply an image, baked into the page like any other graphic. Use it for consent forms, cover sheets, or approval workflows where visual identification is the goal, not for contracts or filings that require legal binding.
Three ways to capture: draw, type, or upload
Draw your signature freehand on a canvas with your mouse or finger. Or type your name in a script font and let the tool render it. Or upload a photo of your handwritten signature — the white or grey paper background is detected and removed automatically, leaving only the ink on a transparent layer. Signatures are stored on your device and can be reused across any document without re-entering them.
Uploaded signatures remove their background in one step
When you upload a photo, the tool analyzes the image with Otsu's method to find the threshold between ink and paper, then strips the background automatically. If the result still shows grey shadows, a sensitivity slider lets you adjust the threshold left or right without re-uploading. Signatures are capped at 1000 pixels wide to keep processing fast and file size small.
Place on one page, all pages, or a page range
Click anywhere on a page to place your signature; drag to resize and reposition. Once placed, you can copy it to a single page, all pages in the document, or a custom range like 1,3-5,9. The signed PDF is downloaded with all signatures flattened into the page content so they cannot be removed without editing the PDF itself. See Merge PDF to combine signed pages, or Compress PDF to reduce file size after signing.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Sign PDF.
Is this a legally binding digital signature?
No. This tool creates an image stamp—a visual representation of your signature embedded into the PDF. It does not sign the document cryptographically, add a timestamp, or create any tamper evidence. It is suitable for workflows that require proof of intent or consent (like approvals or cover sheets), but not for contracts, financial documents, or filings in most legal jurisdictions. Always check your jurisdiction's requirements for e-signature validity.
Can I sign an encrypted PDF?
Yes. When you upload an encrypted PDF, the tool will prompt you for the password. Once you enter it, the password is remembered for the session, and you can add signatures freely. The signed PDF is exported with your edits applied. Your password never leaves your browser.
What if my uploaded signature photo has a grey background?
The automatic background removal uses a brightness threshold to separate ink from paper. Most photos work perfectly with the default setting, but if grey shadows remain, use the sensitivity slider. Drag left to remove more grey; drag right to preserve ink if too much is disappearing. The preview updates in real time.
Can I reuse a signature across multiple documents?
Yes. Every signature you create is saved on your device (up to the last 5). Next time you open the tool, your saved signatures appear at the top—just click one to use it instantly. Saved signatures are stored in your browser's local storage and are never uploaded or synced.
