Personal income tax in UAE is zero
The UAE levies no personal income tax on salary, bonuses, or allowances at any income level or nationality. A salary in Dubai is nearly take-home; there is no income tax withholding or annual filing requirement.
What you do pay
Zero personal income tax does not mean zero taxation:
- Corporate income tax: 9% on profits above AED 375,000 annually (since June 2023) applies to self-employed and company-operating individuals, not salaried employees.
- VAT at 5%: Charged on most goods and services, though exports and certain healthcare, education and real-estate supplies are zero-rated. The VAT calculator handles the arithmetic in both directions.
- GPSSA: UAE and GCC nationals contribute 5% of salary to the General Pension and Social Security Authority. Expatriates do not pay this.
- End-of-service gratuity: Employers owe a lump sum based on tenure when employment ends.
Comparing job offers: Dubai vs. elsewhere
Use this calculator to compare a Dubai job offer against home-country salaries. An AED 120,000 headline figure in the UAE is nearly your take-home. The same headline figure elsewhere is a pre-tax number, and what lands in the account after income tax and social contributions can be a great deal lower β which is why the two should only ever be compared net against net. See our salary calculator for a full UAE deduction breakdown.
Your home country still has claims
Moving to the UAE does not end your home country's tax claims. Some nationalities face worldwide income taxation regardless of residence. Others have complex "ceasing residency" rules. A few countries even tax citizens abroad indefinitely.
Before relocating, consult a tax professional in both the UAE and your home country. The UAE side is straightforward; yours likely is not.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Income Tax Calculator UAE π¦πͺ.
Is salary tax free in Dubai?
Yes. The UAE has no personal income tax on salary, bonuses, or allowances, regardless of nationality or visa status. This applies at every income level. However, corporate tax (9% on business profits above AED 375k), VAT (5%), and end-of-service gratuity obligations still apply. Check your employment status to confirm you are salaried, not self-employed.
Do expats pay income tax in the UAE?
No. Expatriate workers pay zero personal income tax in the UAE on salary or wages. This policy applies equally to all nationalities and visa types. However, expatriates still face VAT on purchases (5%), and some home countries tax their citizens' worldwide income regardless of where they live, so verify your home country's rules.
What is the UAE corporate income tax rate?
A 9% corporate income tax applies to net business profits exceeding AED 375,000 per year, effective since June 2023. This affects self-employed individuals, freelancers, and businesses operating through a company or license. Salaried employees do not pay this tax. Only those invoicing through their own entity are subject to it.
Do I still pay tax at home if I move to the UAE?
Possibly. The UAE has no personal income tax, but your home country may still claim tax on your worldwide income depending on your citizenship and their residency rules. Some countries tax citizens indefinitely abroad; others have complex ceasing residency rules. Before relocating, consult a tax advisor in both jurisdictions.
