Tax-free income depends on who you are
Bangladesh income tax does not apply uniformly at a single threshold. Your personal circumstances determine where tax begins. A resident male has no tax on the first BDT 350,000 of income. Women and senior citizens (aged 65 or above) receive a higher exemption of BDT 400,000. Taxpayers registered with a disability are exempt on income up to BDT 475,000. Gazetted freedom fighters and parents of children with disabilities receive further concessions, which this calculator does not model.
This calculator uses the resident-male threshold
The tool defaults to the 350,000 taka exemption. If you are a woman, senior citizen, or person with a disability, your actual tax liability is lower than the figure shown here, because your tax-free slice is larger. Adjust your understanding accordingly, or enter your income net of the additional exemption you qualify for.
How the tax brackets work
Tax is calculated in bands. On taxable income of BDT 1,000,000, the computation is:
- BDT 0โ350,000: 0% = BDT 0
- BDT 350,001โ450,000: 5% = BDT 5,000
- BDT 450,001โ850,000: 10% = BDT 40,000
- BDT 850,001โ1,000,000: 15% = BDT 22,500
- Total tax: BDT 67,500
Each band applies only to the income falling within it; you do not pay the higher rate on all income.
| Income band | Rate |
|---|---|
| BDT 0โ350,000 | 0% |
| BDT 350,001โ450,000 | 5% |
| BDT 450,001โ850,000 | 10% |
| BDT 850,001โ1,350,000 | 15% |
| BDT 1,350,001โ1,850,000 | 20% |
| Above BDT 1,850,000 | 25% |

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Income Tax Calculator Bangladesh ๐ง๐ฉ.
What is the tax-free income limit in Bangladesh?
The tax-free income limit depends on your status. Resident males are exempt on the first BDT 350,000. Women and senior citizens (65+) are exempt on the first BDT 400,000. Taxpayers with a disability are exempt on the first BDT 475,000. Gazetted freedom fighters and parents of a child with a disability receive further exemptions.
Do women pay less tax in Bangladesh?
Yes. Women have a higher tax-free threshold (BDT 400,000) compared to resident males (BDT 350,000). This means a woman and a man with the same income will have different tax liabilities, with the woman owing less tax. The same higher threshold applies to senior citizens aged 65 or above.
How much income tax do I pay on a BDT 500,000 salary in Bangladesh?
For a resident male, the first BDT 350,000 is taxed at 0%, the next BDT 100,000 at 5% (BDT 5,000) and the remaining BDT 50,000 at 10% (BDT 5,000), giving BDT 10,000 in total. Note that the 350,000 is a nil-rate band, not a lump-sum exemption, so the balance still climbs through the bands. A woman or senior citizen, whose nil band runs to BDT 400,000, would pay 5% on BDT 100,000, or BDT 5,000.
What are the income tax brackets in Bangladesh?
Tax bands for resident males are 0% on the first BDT 350,000, 5% from 350,001 to 450,000, 10% from 450,001 to 850,000, 15% from 850,001 to 1,350,000, 20% from 1,350,001 to 1,850,000, and 25% on income above BDT 1,850,000.
