Three mandatory deductions sit between gross and net
Every Philippine salaried worker contributes to three separate systems before income tax is calculated. The Social Security System (SSS) funds pensions, sickness benefits, maternity leave, and disability coverage. PhilHealth is the national health insurance program. The Pag-IBIG Fund (Home Development Mutual Fund) is a savings and housing-loan scheme. How much they take, and how that share moves as your salary rises, is not what most people expect.
Caps make these deductions unlike income tax
SSS contributions are capped at PHP 1,125 per month (or PHP 13,500 annually). PhilHealth is capped at PHP 2,500 per month (PHP 30,000/year). Pag-IBIG is capped at PHP 200 per month (PHP 2,400/year). Income tax has no cap. This creates a counterintuitive pattern: as salary rises, these three contributions shrink as a percentage of gross pay, while income tax grows. A worker earning PHP 1M annually pays the same Pag-IBIG amount as one earning PHP 5M, but far more in income tax. Use the calculator above to see this spread widen as you adjust income.
Contributions lower your taxable income
The mandatory deductions come off before income tax is computed. This means the effective cost of each contribution is lower than its headline rate. A PHP 13,500 SSS contribution saves PHP 2,025 in income tax at a 15% marginal rate, so the real cost to you is PHP 11,475. The calculator shows the full breakdown: gross, each deduction, tax computed on what remains, and final net pay. See our income tax calculator for a deeper look at the tax slabs themselves.
Verify these figures with your HR or the BIR
Contribution rates and caps are revised by SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG periodically. Employers may offer separate loans, flexible-contribution classes, or company-matched benefits not modelled here. The 8% flat-tax option open to some self-employed and professional taxpayers is not covered. Always confirm your deductions with your payroll department or consult the Bureau of Internal Revenue if your take-home differs significantly from the calculator's estimate.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the Salary Calculator Philippines π΅π.
How much SSS is deducted from my salary?
SSS is 4.5% of your monthly gross salary, capped at PHP 1,125 per month (PHP 13,500 per year). This means once your monthly salary reaches PHP 25,000, you pay the maximum PHP 1,125 regardless of further raises.
What is Pag-IBIG for?
Pag-IBIG is a government savings and housing-loan fund. Employees contribute up to PHP 200 per month (PHP 2,400 per year). You can borrow against your accumulated balance for home purchase or renovation, or withdraw it upon retirement.
Why is my net pay lower than I calculated?
Three mandatory deductions (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG) come out before income tax. Income tax is then applied to the remaining amount. A month with a bonus or back pay can push the contributions up as well, since two of the three scale with gross pay until they hit their caps. Confirm the amounts with your payroll team.
Are SSS and PhilHealth contributions tax-deductible?
Yes. SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG contributions all reduce your taxable income. So if you contribute PHP 13,500 in SSS, your tax is calculated on your gross salary minus PHP 13,500, saving you tax at your marginal rate.
