Which is exactly why it hides the problems real content would reveal. Both halves of that sentence are true, and the useful thing is knowing when each applies.

The case for it is genuine: the eye cannot parse nonsense Latin, so a reviewer looks at typography, rhythm and layout instead of being drawn into the words. Put real English copy in front of a design review and the conversation reliably becomes about wording within about ninety seconds. Lorem ipsum keeps attention on the visual system, and that is a real function rather than a habit.

Why a layout that works with it still breaks

The problem is that lorem ipsum has properties real content does not:

• It is Latin. Word lengths and rhythm follow Latin, so a design tuned to it can misbehave in English — and far more so with German compounds, or with scripts that set at a different density.
• It is exactly the length you asked for. It never tests the short case or the long one. Real headlines are sometimes two words and sometimes fourteen, and the layouts that break are the ones only ever tested in the comfortable middle.
• It contains nothing awkward. No links, no bold, no numbers, no long unbroken strings, no email addresses — so nothing that would expose a wrapping or overflow bug before release.
• It never says anything. So it cannot reveal that a card has room for a heading nobody can actually write meaningfully in five words, which is a content problem the design created.

How to use it well

Use it for early visual exploration, then move to real or realistic content before anything is signed off. And when you do, deliberately test the extremes rather than the average — a layout that survives both a five-word headline and a forty-word one is the one worth shipping. Filling every slot with a comfortable middle length is how a design passes review and fails in production.

Check for it before you ship

Placeholder text reaching production is a common and thoroughly embarrassing failure, and it is trivially preventable: search your templates, design files and exported assets for Lorem before release. It takes seconds and it is the only defence that reliably works, since nobody notices the paragraph they have looked at four hundred times.

What this generator produces

Three modes, from 1 to 50 units each: paragraphs of 4–5 sentences, sentences of 6–17 words, or individual words. An option controls whether the output opens with the traditional Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

It draws from a fixed Latin vocabulary, which keeps the rhythm Latin rather than drifting into English patterns. The text itself is scrambled Latin derived from a work by Cicero and has been used as typographic specimen text for centuries — the words are real Latin, but the passage has been jumbled enough that it no longer means anything.
