Hash (SHA/MD5)
A fixed-length fingerprint computed from any data.
What is Hash (SHA/MD5)?
A hash is a fixed-length string produced by a one-way function that maps any input data to a unique-looking fingerprint, with algorithms like SHA-256 and MD5 being common. It is used to verify file integrity, detect changes, and store passwords in a non-reversible form. A good hash makes it infeasible to recover the original input, and MD5 and SHA-1 are now considered weak for security-sensitive uses.
