Drawdown

The peak-to-trough decline of an account or investment.

What is Drawdown?

A drawdown is the decline in value from a peak to a subsequent trough, usually expressed as a percentage of the peak. Maximum drawdown measures the largest such drop over a period and is a common gauge of downside risk. Because losses require larger percentage gains to recover, a deep drawdown can be hard to climb back from.
