Vague prompts get vague results

Ask an AI to "write an email" and it has no idea whether you want 100 words or 500, whether the reader is a close colleague or a cold prospect, or whether the email should close a deal or simply keep one warm.

Every missing detail is a gap the model has to fill, and it fills them generically — because the most probable continuation of a vague prompt is a generic one. A prompt specifying task, audience and tone rather than a bare topic produces work you will not have to rewrite from scratch.

What this tool does — and where it runs

Describe what you want done, say who the audience is, pick a tone, and it assembles a structured prompt. The assembly happens entirely in your browser — there is no API call and nothing is sent anywhere. Your inputs stay on your machine until you choose to paste the result into an AI yourself.

That is worth stating plainly because it differs from the other AI tools on this site, which send your input to a model provider. This one only writes the prompt; you decide where it goes.

The elements that actually matter

• Task — what you want done, phrased as an instruction rather than a subject. "Write a 500-word guide for small-business owners on pricing strategy" is a task; "pricing guide" is a topic, and the difference in output is large.
• Audience — who is reading. Knowing the reader is an accountant changes both what you explain and what you can safely skip, and omitting it is the most common reason output feels pitched at nobody.
• Tone — the register. The five options here are genuinely different, not cosmetic labels, and the same task produces meaningfully different writing under each.
• Structure — the tool appends formatting instructions, asking for clear organisation and no filler.

What does not help

Worth disposing of the folklore, because a lot of prompt advice is superstition. Telling a model it is a world-class expert, offering it a tip, or wrapping the request in elaborate incantations does very little. What moves the output is the information you supply and the limits you set.

The highest-leverage addition is one most people skip: an example of the output you want. A single example communicates form, length and register at once, and does it more precisely than several paragraphs of description ever will.

What a better prompt cannot fix

Prompting improves relevance, form and consistency. It does not make output true — factual claims, numbers, names and dates still need checking against a real source, and a confidently-worded prompt produces confidently-worded errors.

And if the task is unclear to you, no amount of structure rescues it. Prompting is often just the moment you are forced to decide what you actually want, which is why writing the prompt sometimes solves the problem on its own.
